The two eagles were from Alaska, and that’s where they were headed. They knew that Alaska, however, was too cold for two little girls---Anna and Katie were already beginning to shiver---so they dropped them off at the nearest safe spot when they reached the Pacific Ocean. The eagles spotted a friendly looking blue whale, and that’s exactly where they deposited Anna and Katie.
“Boy that was close!” exclaimed Anna. “First we almost get trampled by elephants, and then two eagles fly us through the clouds! Although flying was fun, I was so scared the eagles would let us go and we would fall splat on the ground! Oh, well, at least this whale seems friendly and safe.”
At first the whale was swimming slowly, and Katie and Anna were enjoying the ride, taking in the sparkling ocean view. Then the whale started to slowly rise up and sink down in the water. The whale repeated this, and with each rise, the girls rose several feet above the water, but with each dive, the girls came dangerously close to going UNDER the water. Katie and Anna began to get scared. With the next rise, the girls went so far up that they knew the whale would go under the water on the following dive. “What are we going to do?!” they cried to each other.
